This Month's Custom Build: Monte Baus Banquette
Fortner began with a magazine photograph brought to us by the client. She had a style and design, a look, she wanted to mimic and asked Fortner what the possibilities were.
Fortner worked with the customer to determine the seat and back height, depth and pitch. This was done by having the client sit in chairs of various shapes and sizes to determine what design would be most comfortable.
Once Fortner determined an appropriate size, we made a template that followed the curve of the client's existing kitchen table.
Fortner then made a cardboard scale profile and showed that on site to confirm details and to give the customer a feel for the finished product.
Once the design phase was tweaked and finalized, Fortner made drawings for the frame shop and built the frame and custom size/finish legs.
Finally, Fortner moved the completed frame to the upholstery shop and used traditional methods and materials to upholster the piece to the specifications needed.
Below you can see the end result, a custom banquette to the design and comfort specifications of the individual client, made specifically for her table and home.
